users who already have a pay as you go phone from O2 will be able to transfer their number and credit over to the new sim.

Snow Patrol - First Band On iPhone Interactive

Snow Patrol are to pioneer Apples new interactive application for the iPhone and iPod Touch with their new album 'A Hundred Million Suns', Due out this autumn.

The album will also be the first to utilise the multimedia capacities of iPhones, reports Music Week. Fans will be able to download the application and access bonus content including artwork, behind-the-scenes images and lyrics via the handset's touchscreen.

I was hoping for someone else to be the first band to use this technology, I don't know who, Just anyone who isn't a middle of the road pop-rock outfit.

Fix For iPhone 3G Security Flaw

Those of you who are worried about the iPhone security flaw and can't wait for the official patch from apple, Which is coming next month, are in luck. There is a simple fix that you can use to work around this flaw until the patch becomes available.

The fix involves changing what a double click of the home button does. As default double clicking the home button opens your favorites, And this is how an attacker gains access to your iPhone. Simply set the double clicking of the home button to open the ipod function instead, Sure an attacker can still listen to your music, But surely finding out that you listen to blink 182 and creed is better than phoning your mum for phone sex or emailing your boss and telling him to shove his job and go fuck himself.

Set the fix:
tap settings > tap general > tape home button > tap ipod - You're done!

Edit; I have just been informed that setting the double click to "home" will bring up the pass screen again, So they don't even have to find out that you listen to shit music.

Steve Jobs Dead, According To Bloomberg

Steve Jobs, Co-founder of Apple, Has died. At least, That's what Bloomberg said when they mistakenly published a prewritten obituary of the Apple founder on their website.

The pre-written obituary was accidentally published on the news outlets website after being updated and contained blank spaces which would later be filled with the apple founders age and cause of death.

The opening sentence described Jobs as the man who “helped make personal computers as easy to use as telephones, changed the way animated films are made, persuaded consumers to tune into digital music and refashioned the mobile phone.”

The 2,500-word piece also included praise from his rival Microsoft boss Bill Gates, details of his rise from college drop-out to technology billionaire, and a list of his family “survivors”.

Details of friends and colleagues of the Apple founder to be contacted by Bloomberg in the event of his death were also published with the obituary.

Bloomberg, which was founded by New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and prides itself on its accuracy and transparency, later published a note acknowledging the story's retraction on its wire.

“An incomplete story referencing Apple Inc. was inadvertently published by Bloomberg News at 4:27 p.m.New York time today,” the message read.

Big iPhone 3G Exploit Found

The guys over at Gizmodo have found a fairly seriously flaw in the iPhone 3G, A floor which enables an attacker to access your address book, Mail, SMS, Contacts, and Safari. all while your iPhone is supposed to be locked and password protected.

The vulnerability works as follows on a password protected locked iPhone.

1. Slide to unlock
2. Tap to emergency call
3. Double tap the home button

This will give you access to the iPhone’s favorites, the Address Book, the keypad and the voice mail.

Pretty easy to execute and pretty serious eh? Well it gets worse. If the attacker taps on the blue arrow next to a contacts name they will then have access to all of that contacts information. If they tap on an email address they will have full access to the mail client, tapping on a URL gives full access to safari and tapping on text message gives full access to SMS. All while the unsuspecting user believes his iPhone's inner most secrets are protected by the iPhone password system.

iPhone 3G Ad Banned In Britain

An iPhone 3G advert broadcast in Britain which shows a users scrolling through different websites and had the voice over "You never know which part of the internet you'll need...Which is why all the parts of the internet are on the iPhone." has been banned in Britain after 2 complaints pointed out that the claim is in fact false as the iPhone lacks support for flash and Java applications.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) agreed with the complaints, ruling that the advert gave a "misleading impression" of the iPhone's internet capability. It has told Apple the advert must not be broadcast again in its current form.

Apple argued that the advert was talking about the iPhones ability to access all websites, Not claiming that it supports every function on every website.

David O'Reilly has created what has been repeatedly called a "most useless, but cool" iPhone application. iHologram takes an animated character and uses some vector reassignment models to preangulate the dimensions of the structure in a way that makes it appear 3D within a transient environment of perpetually dis-coordinated ratios (yeah i just made all that up, How the fuck am i supposed to know how he done it?)

iPhone App Crash Bug Fix Coming Soon

iPhone users frustrated with the constant crashing of third party apps on the iPhone will get a fix in the next firmware update, Which Steve Jobs, In a rare personal email reply to a complaint sent by an appleinsider, Said will be available next month (September).

Of course in true apple/Steve Jobs style the message was terse, to the point and lacked detail saying only; "This is a known iPhone bug that is being fixed in the next software update in September".

Users who relied heavily on the functionality of third party apps may have found their iPhone practically useless due to these crashes and no sure-fire work around had been found, Though some users report that deleting and reinstalling the apps helped in some instances.

Speculation has grown regarding the cause of the crash with some users speculating that the cause was improperly set permissions to run the apps. One member of Apple's forums has been told by a support agent that his iTunes account was apparently "split into two separate accounts," confusing the iPhone when it attempts to load an app. Some users note experiencing the problem chiefly with apps downloaded from the iPhone it's self rather than through iTunes.

iPhone 2.0.2 Available

Just two weeks after apple updated it's iPhone firmware to 2.0.1 another update available, This one, As expected, Is 2.0.2 and is available from itunes.

On first inspection there seems to be no new features, options or functions included in this 248.7MB update and only time will tell if this update will fix the iPhone connection issues that some users have experienced. Some iPhone users who have already updated have experienced faster browsing in safari, Though it is unsure if this is a result of the update or because the update process cleared the cache.

As usual apple give no specifics regarding the contents of the update and describe it only as "bug fixes".

Faulty Chip Possibly Responsible For iPhone 3G Poor Reception

Rumours have been flying since Richard Windsor of Nomura published a research note singling out Infineon's chipset as the possible cause of the iPhone 3G connection issues.

If Richard Windsor is right then it spells bad news for iPhone users as a hardware issue is unlikely to be fixed by a firmware update, which means iPhone users will just have to live with the poor 3G reception indefinitely.

"We believe that these issues are typical of an immature chipset and radio protocol stack where we are almost certain that Infineon is the 3G supplier," Said Windsor. "This is not surprising as the Infineon 3G chipset solution has never really been tested in the hands of users. Some people will not experience these problems as it is only in areas where the radio signal weakens that the immaturity of the stack really shows."

I personally haven't experienced any big problems with 3G reception, I usually get a strong 3G signal, Though i live in London and in London we have very good coverage. But looking at the apple iPhone support forums i may be a rare case. Since the release of the iPhone 3G users have been complaining in their droves about poor signal, Dropped calls and switches to Edge during Internet access.

Apple are still not acknowledging that the iPhone 3G suffers from connection issues and Infineon have refused to comment on the iPhone problem.

App Store Remove "Slasher" Knife Application

Want to be a knife murderer but don't like getting blood on your hands? Well, Up until yesterday you were in luck. An iPhone application called slasher, which brought up the image of a blade on their iPhone screen and played the sound effect from the psycho shower scene when the user done a stabbing motion, Was recently withdrawn amid criticism from the British media at a time when Britain is facing escalated knife crime.

Facebook were recently also forced to remove an application which allowed users to "stab" each other, Which is a long way from the friendly "poke".
