Big iPhone 3G Exploit Found

Wednesday 27 August 2008

iPhone 3GThe guys over at Gizmodo have found a fairly seriously flaw in the iPhone 3G, A floor which enables an attacker to access your address book, Mail, SMS, Contacts, and Safari. all while your iPhone is supposed to be locked and password protected.

The vulnerability works as follows on a password protected locked iPhone.

  1. Slide to unlock
  2. Tap to emergency call
  3. Double tap the home button
This will give you access to the iPhone’s favorites, the Address Book, the keypad and the voice mail.

Pretty easy to execute and pretty serious eh? Well it gets worse. If the attacker taps on the blue arrow next to a contacts name they will then have access to all of that contacts information. If they tap on an email address they will have full access to the mail client, tapping on a URL gives full access to safari and tapping on text message gives full access to SMS. All while the unsuspecting user believes his iPhone's inner most secrets are protected by the iPhone password system.

2.0.3 please apple! Chop Chop!
